AirPods Tips and Tricks

AirPods are great for watching Netflix be it on your iPhone or your Mac. Okay, I admit, they’re not the best sounding earphones out there, but the seamless experience inside the Apple ecosystem makes it worthwhile.

You know what else makes it worthwhile? Little known AirPods tips and tricks and no, we aren’t talking about the native settings of AirPods that you can tweak on your iPhone, rather some hidden tricks that you probably have never heard of. So, if you use AirPods every day and night, it’s worth knowing these tricks. Let’s begin.

Wunderfind

When you lost the AirPods you can find on Apple device through Find My App but if you are using AirPods with Android, you can still find with an app called Wunderfind.

To install the app, go to the Play Store and search for Wunderfind, download and install it. After download, open the app and you will see your connected devices so if I lost the bud click on that AirPods and tap on Play Sound and it’ll automatically play the beep sound on your AirPods.

But what's cool about it is when you not connected with AirPods, this app just nailed it even if your buds are not connected to the app, you can still find your AirPods.

AirBuddy 2

Next up, we have a Mac app called AirBuddy 2, which is basically an improved version of AirBuddy.

If you frequently connect your AirPods to your Mac for video calls, or watch YouTube videos etc., just install this app.

Once installed, the app will show the status of your AirPods Pro or other Apple and Beats headsets when they’re near your Mac. You know, just like you get when you bring your AirPods closer to iPhone.

And not just that, with AirBuddy 2, you also get batteries status for all of your Apple devices at the status bar menu, including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, and other Macs running AirBuddy 2.

Either way, go check out AirBuddy 2. it’s a paid app that will cost you $10 or $5 if you already have an AirBuddy and want to upgrade to AirBuddy 2.

Bluetooth Battery Monitor

This next trick is useful, if you use AirPods with a Windows computer.

Although Windows 10 natively supports the battery levels of Bluetooth devices connected to the computer, AirPods, for some reason, don’t transmit the data to Windows because it’s obviously out of the ecosystem. That’s where this new app comes in.

The Bluetooth Battery Monitor is a nifty app that sits in the System Tray and tells you the battery percentage of the devices, even Apple’s AirPods. The app comes with a seven-day free trial and if you like the app, you can purchase it for $4.99.

80% charge level

Moving on, in the recent updates, Apple introduced "Optimized Battery Charging" for AirPods Pro in which the case has a maximum charge up to 80% and it won't kick back in until they think you'll need that extra 20%. This, charging AirPods pro to 80% is useful to extend the battery life of AirPods.

But this could also mean, AirPods pro won't last as long in your ears before needing put back in the case. And you could end up with dead AirPods Pro if you are using it for a long video call.

Thankfully, you can also turn it off. To do so, take out your iPhone, go to Settings and open the Bluetooth settings (make sure your AirPods are connected) click on info icon or your AirPods, scroll down and you will see an optimized battery charging option so turned it off and we can go back to reaching up to 100%.

Wireless Charging Check

When you charge your AirPods Pro wirelessly, there is no monitoring option to check if it's charging or not, here this is hidden trick.

When placed on a wireless charger, the LED on AirPods will light up, giving you an indication of whether it’s charging or not. But here’s something even cooler.

When your charging case is kept on wireless charger just tap on the light to know it’s charging or not. If you see a green light, it means it’s charging, otherwise it’s probably not charging. The case is probably not properly aligned in the center of the charging pad and you need to do that again.

Quick Reply Through Siri

If you have your iPhone connected to AirPods (2nd generation or newer), Siri can read your messages to you as they come in, and you can say "Reply" to send one back. That’s pretty neat. But when you say reply, Siri reads back your drafted text, which is a lot annoying. Thankfully, you can turn off Siri replying you back.

Head over to Settings –> Siri & Search –> Announce Messages. Here, disable the toggle for "Reply without Confirmation." Once you do that, Siri will send your voice-created message directly, without reading it out to you. Although, I suggest you check those messages once, especially if you are replying to your boss or something. You can’t trust AI auto correct yet, can you?
