How to watch US Live TV From Anywhere

Although Netflix and Amazon Prime took over the living room, live TV still appears to be lurking around the corner every time there’s live sport event going on like the Super Bowl or the recent NFL final.

So, you might be a hip expat living in the countryside of Europe or someone who just wants to watch US Live TV from the outside you’ve got an array of options. You know like there’s more than one way to skin a cat. The popular one being -  Hulu Live, YouTube TV, Sling and DirecTV, etc.

But, there’s not one but two flipping issues: one - these services are only available in the US and two, you’d need an American credit card to sign up for it. I overcame this restriction and watched the recent NFL from outside US without using a US credit card or being in the United States.

For this instance, we’ll pick Sling TV as it offers the most bang for its buck. Also, unlike standard cable or satellite plans, there's no annual contract with Sling TV, you can cancel this baby anytime.

So, let’s see how you can do that, shall we?

Step One: Get a VPN

As you might have guessed, you will need a VPN to even access the Sling website. For this instance, I’ll recommend getting a Smart DNS Proxy. The reason being it offers both a VPN and Smart DNS, meaning you set it up on your router and watch US TV shows from all your devices.

So, head over to Smart DNS Proxy.com and create a free trial account. Follow the instruction on the setup page or watch our previous setup instruction videos for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, router, or any device you have. It just cost $5 per month but the good news is there’s even a 14-day free trial, so if you decide not to continue, you can cancel before that. It doesn’t require any credit card info as well.

Once you have set it up, turn on the VPN and switch to United States.

Step Two: Get a Sling Gift Card

Now that you’ve got a VPN, if you visit Sling TV, you can access the website. Take a look at their various plans. Sling TV is available in two different flavors: Sling Orange and Sling Blue, both of which cost $25 per month on their own. For this instance, I’ll go with the Sling Blue.

Next, we need to buy gift card for Sling TV as it only accepts a US credit card.

Go to mygiftcardsupply.com (we have tried multiple gift card companies and this is the only one that works with a non- US credit card and PayPal)

You can get between $25 and $100. For now, I’ll just do with $25 plan (for which I have to pay $28 that includes their commissions) and check out with my PayPal. Enter your name, email and verify your phone number.

Once done, you’ll get the code in your email within a minute or two.

Step Three: Sign Up for Sling TV

Now that you have a VPN and Sling gift card, you are now ready to sign up for Sling TV.  Head to Sling TV’s gift redemption page. Click “New User? Redeem Here” and then set up your account.

You need to add a US billing address for tax reasons, make sure you type in something realistic, like a real hotel address or something.

Select whichever package and premium extras you want. And scroll down to choose “Next”.

Next, it’ll ask you for your payment information, don’t add a credit card (the 7-day free trial may look tempting but don’t fall for it), instead scroll down and enter the gift card that you just got in your email. And that’s it. Click “Finish and Submit” to set up your account.

So, there you go, now that you’ve got Sling account, you can sideload the Sling app on Android and use it with the Smart DNS Proxy VPN. Unfortunately, the Sling app for iPhone, Apple TV, and other platforms is geo-restricted. Sorry about that.

Another downside for this whole plan though, is that you can’t choose a monthly billing cycle. So, you’d need to keep your Sling account going with a gift card every month. Like a gift card salesman. Just head over to My Account preferences page on the Sling website and select the “Add Gift Card” link. Enter a new code, click the “Redeem” button, and you’re back in action.

Overall, Smart DNS Proxy and Sling TV gift cards are an explosive combo for you can watch US TV from any part of the world.

But what if you want to watch US Netflix or Hulu Live TV from outside of USA? Well, we have videos for that as well. You can keep watching them.
