Watch 2018 Wimbledon tournament live!

History of Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Championships is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is generally considered as the most respected one. It has been played in the same place, All England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877. It belongs to the big four of Grand Slam tournaments accompanied by Australian Open, French Open and the US Open. Wimbledon remains the only one which is still played on grass.

Every year, the tournament is played more or less at the same time of the year and it takes two weeks around late June and early July finishing with Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Finals during the last two days. Wimbledon stands out of the other tournaments with the lack of sponsor advertising around the courts, a very strict dress code for the players and Royal patronage over the event. Eighteen grass courts are a home for numerous sub-tournaments including men’s and women’s doubles and singles, junior events and invitational events. The Wimbledon Final matches are obliged to be broadcast on national terrestrial BBC television by government mandate.

Why is it worth watching?

Wimbledon is the showpiece event of the tennis calendar and one of the most watched sports events with almost half a million attendees and 13 million home viewers. Over 80 broadcast organizations, 40 other international networks, 2500 broadcasters and nearly 100 cameras on site are there to make sure that everyone interested in tennis or simply those who like to watch their favorite players can follow the matches. Even if you are not too much into tennis such names as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep, Serena Williams or Petra Kvitova can draw viewers to the screens.

Wimbledon live coverage

The Wimbledon Championships, as every year, will be broadcast by many radio and television stations. The tournament has been broadcasted by BBC since 1937. Apart from the official UK broadcasting channel (which also provides live coverage of the qualifying matches), many channels across the world will be covering the championships either live or as taped broadcasts. Thanks to streaming services, watching the tournament live, no matter where you are and what device you are using is no longer a problem. Large sports networks like ESPN, Fox Sports, Eurosport or The Tennis Channel support live streaming of the matches.

How to stream matches from around the world?

There are several ways to stream the Wimbledon Championships live. If you are lucky enough to be located in the area where a licensed broadcaster with the streaming rights provides coverage of the event – good for you. However, many of us happen to be living in the area where geo-location of some streaming services effectively prevents you from watching the matches. You may also encounter the same problem if you travel abroad (either on holiday or on business). Geo-restrictions will make it impossible for you to watch the matches even if normally have full access to the service in your country.
